Secondary Education (Science with Physics)
The programme has 2 major aims: to make sense of teaching, to provide a framework to understand teaching and to support professional development; to develop skills and expertise in teaching through explicit links between practice in well-established partner schools and theoretical approaches; all students have to be capable of teaching all science in the 11-16 age range; the programme works through a series of interactive seminars; the emphasis is on taking part in an intellectually challenging and highly professional course leading to reflective and critical practitioners able to contribute effectively to high standards of learning; written assignments are designed to support students in planning their teaching effectively and imaginatively and to evaluate learning; while each student has an individual programme of learning of science subject knowledge, many sessions are devoted to linking subject knowledge to principles of teaching in schools; the University also offers pre PGCE intensive booster courses in physics and chemistry as well as 6 month enhancement courses in physics and chemistry; these are aimed to develop subject knowledge and practical skills to teach up to GCSE and A-level respectively.
Degree in an appropriate subject; GCSE minimum grade C or equivalent in mathematics, English language and science; interview.
