Instrumental Teaching

This programme covers the principals and processes of music teaching. Study addresses how teachers manage professional self-development and competence through an understanding of general educational principles and the underlying rationale of their teaching.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have received professional training, possess a recognised qualification in an instrument or voice, and currently be teaching individual pupils or small groups. Those who do not hold a recognised qualification should provide evidence of minimum standards of performance by submission of an authenticated audition tape, or by attending an interview and audition.

Course modules

4 modules: principles and processes of music teaching; principles and processes of studio music teaching; instrument-specific and vocal teaching and learning; processes of reflective teaching.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a mixture of written assignments and DVD presentations for each module.
