Law and Society

This course places emphasis on the doctrinal, theoretical and contextual study of law, and your self-understanding as a participant in the practice of legal scholarship. You will explore the application of law and legal research in society, and develop advanced skills in legal research methods and analysis of law and legal issues. This programme provides ideal preparation for PhD studies. We were ranked 10th for research intensity in a recent national assessment, with 100% of our research rated as world leading or internationally excellent. MRes Law and Society is one of a very few programmes accredited for 1+3 funding under the South East ESRC Doctoral Training Centre scheme. Thhrive as part of a very small cohort of high-calibre students, and undertake sustained training in methodological approaches to legal research. You will have full access to the University library, student common room, and all the other facilities available to Reading Law students. **Careers** This programme leads to practice at the Bar, legal practice and further academia.

Entry requirements

Master of Research - MRes: You are normally required to have a good undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). However, our participants come with a variety of relevant legal and non-legal experience and all applicants are considered on individual merit. IELTS: 6.5 overall with no element less than 5.5 (or equivalent).
