Biomedicine (by Research)
This degree gives you everything you need, both in theoretical and practical terms, to stand out as a biomedical scientist. This course sets you up with the knowledge and skills to carry out original research - and gives you the chance to use the knowledge in our purpose-built laboratories. You will learn crucial research techniques such as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and cloning. You will also have the opportunity to read and discuss the latest and most important research papers with your peers and academics. What you learn has a practical application: the skills you will be taught are necessary in sectors as varied as food, pharmaceutical, healthcare and biopharmaceutical. This course is outstanding in that it is a year-long commitment which can transform you into a researcher. During the first term, you will take several core taught modules which will give you the knowledge and theoretical skills to act as a biomedical researcher. You will then be set an industrial challenge by our partner RSSL - a leading provider of scientific and technical solutions to numerous sectors. Finally, you will take a seven-month project of original research. This is an excellent opportunity to gain research experience whilst having access to the expertise of the department. **Careers** Biomedical scientists are in great demand in today's world. Laboratory research for both the government and the pharmaceutical industry is an ever-growing field. You can also use this course as a basis for doctoral study and beginning an academic career.
MSc: You are normally required to have a good undergraduate honours degree in biological science (such as biomedical sciences, biological sciences, biochemistry or microbiology) or equivalent from a university outside the UK. IELTS: 6.5 overall with no element less than 5.5 (or equivalent).
