University of Reading
This course aims to provide you with a broad overview of the molecular and cellular causes and treatments of human diseases. It provides practical and theoretical understanding of the most important current topics in molecular medicine, including the biology of cancer, synthetic biology, cardiovascular diseases and stem cells and regenerative medicine. You will also gain hands-on training in research techniques such as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, cloning, in situ hybridisation and bioinformatics and you will carry out your own 15-week independent research project. You will have the opportunity to make the most of the School's academic knowledge whilst developing your own skills. In the first term you will learn in a series of modules taught by our leading academics. In the second and third terms you will undertake an original research project with expert supervision from a dedicated tutor within the faculty. **Careers** In this programme, you will learn to use the latest cutting-edge molecular techniques, and will be well equipped to work in the lab after graduating. Many of our graduates go on to study for a PhD and pursue a career in research either in industry or in universities.
