Legal Practice Course

Our collaboration with The University of Law (ULaw) makes Reading the ideal place to pursue your ambition to become a lawyer. As a graduate aiming to become a solicitor, the Legal Practice Course (LPC) represents the next stage of your training once you have gained a qualifying law degree or converted your non-law degree through the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). The LPC bridges the gap between academic study and training in a law firm, and we're confident that ULaw's LPC is the best preparation for entering legal practice by offering you the skills to succeed in the business world. If you want to become a partner in a law firm or progress through any number of career paths, our MSc will provide you with the skills you'll need in practice: Client-focus and embedded business skills to enable you to deliver commercially focused advice Development of essential professional skills ranging from oral and written communication, through to meeting skills and project and risk management A wide selection of electives to cover your specialist areas of interest Innovative assessment to ensure you have the skills law firms require Expert teaching by qualified solicitors and barristers in addition to lectures by visiting professors

Course modules

Stage one: Core practice area modules. This comprises three 30 credit compulsory modules and one 15 credit compulsory module to cover: Introduction to Professional Practice (Professional conduct within this module carries 15 credits); Business Law and Practice knowledge and skills; Dispute Resolution knowledge and skills (including criminal litigation); Real Estate knowledge and skills.

Assessment methods

Students will be required to submit either the Business Case Study Project or Professional Practice Research Report 3 months after the end of the course.
