Mathematics research interests: analysis and applied analysis: main areas of research include: complex systems, ordinary and partial differential equations, direct and inverse scattering, fluid mechanics, including water waves, scattering and free boundary value problems; applied mathematics: main areas of research include: complex systems, geophysical waves, mathematical modelling of biological systems, including cognitive science systems, mathematics of digital economy and modelling in the social sciences; theoretical polymer physics: research in this area includes: equilibrium behaviour of nanostructured polymeric systems, especially theory and numerics of self consistent field theory, for example for block copolymer blends and mixtures; polymer fluid dynamics, including dynamics of entangled polymers, multi-scale simulation methods, from molecular dynamics to finite element modelling of non-newtonian flows; numerical analysis and computational modelling: main areas of research include: data assimilation; computational fluid dynamics, including adaptive finite element methods for geophysical flows and sediment transport, high resolution numerical schemes for conservation laws, computational acoustics and electromagnetics; numerical methods for inverse problems and remote sensing; numerical methods for intergral equations; control theory; operator theory, spectral theory, operator algebras, number theory:the main research interests are in operator algebras and spaces, spectral theory of differential and integral operator in particular in relation to the geometry of the domain, infinite dimensional operators and systems of operators, markov generators, wiener-hopf operators, analytical number theory, including dirichlet series, generalised primes, arithmetical functions.
