This programme seeks to train students in the application of statistics in the life sciences so that they may successfully carry out the role of a professional statistician in the areas of ecology; biology; medicine and drug development.
A good Honours degree in statistics or mathematics.
Core modules: data analysis; sampling methods; multivariate analysis; practical bayesian data analysis; linear models; study design; generalised linear models; modelling structured data and statistical computing. In addition there is a range of applied modules in clinical trials; time to event analysis; statistical genetics; epidemiology & public health.
Assessment methods include a dissertation.
Studentships available from EPSRC, BBSRC, and MRC for UK and EU students; industrial studentships available from Glaxo SmithKline, Pfizer, and Amgen.
