Data Assimilation and Inverse Modelling in Geosciences
This course aims to provide a foundation of the theory and techniques of data assimilation and inverse methods and theirapplication to atmosphere, ocean, land surface, cryosphere, hydrology, and oil and gas reservoir modelling.
A 1st or 2nd Class degree in physics, mathematics or a closely related subject is required (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). Admission to the Diploma may be possible with slightly lower qualifications.
Modules include: Theory and techniques of data assimilation; fluid dynamics of ocean and atmosphere; stochastic processes; environmental data exploration and visualisation; Monte Carlo method and particle filters.
