PhD studentships are available to suitable UK candidates with good Honours degrees in mathematics, physics or related subjects. Many are funded through the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and include a generous stipend to cover living expenses, as well as fees, training costs and work related travel and subsistence. The University of Reading has won funding for a Doctoral Training Partnership called SCENARIO (Postgraduate centre in the Science of the Environment: Natural and Anthropogenic Processes, Impacts and Opportunities) from the NERC and for a Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE) Centre for Doctoral Training from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Many of the funded studentships from the SCENARIO partnership and MPE centre will be based in the Department. The Department can also work with international students who have applied to the PhD programme to access funded studentships (EU or non-EU depending on the funding source). We also welcome PhD students who have obtained funding from their home nation or are self-funding.
