Early Childhood Studies

Early Childhood Studies at Roehampton is distinctive in its roots in Froebelian principles. It has a commitment to babies and young children as people with agency and unique capacities and a deep concern for their overall wellbeing from the prenatal period. The Programme has an international profile and brings together students working professionally with young children, with the early years workforce or as researchers in early childhood.

Entry requirements

The programme is designed for professionals from a variety of backgrounds who work with young children from birth, including those involved in education, health and social services as well as for those who are involved in developing the early years workforce such as further education college lecturers, and for non-professionals who have a particular interest in the early childhood field. Applicants are invited from individuals who either have a degree in early childhood studies, education, social policy, social administration or health studies, or have a degree in another discipline and an interest in early childhood studies, or have a comparable professional award plus relevant experiential learning. Applicants not meeting the normal entry requirements may be required to take a qualifying assignment and/or present a portfolio of documentary evidence of intellectual and professional development resulting from prior experiential learning.
