This course is designed to help you find your voice as a composer. On the way to developing a portfolio of compositions you will explore contemporary compositional styles, learn new techniques and use technology to develop your ideas. You can either specialise in instrumental composition, which includes collaboration with performers, or in electronic/ electroacoustic composition, focusing on studio techniques and analogue/digital technologies.
For most of our courses you�ll need a 2.1 in music or a combined degree with a substantial music component. English language requirements- Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.
Core modules: creative portfolio; composition dissertation; collaborative project; research techniques, critique of research. Optional modules: creative foundation; composition techniques.
You�ll be assessed on your coursework, dissertation and a portfolio of original compositions.
University and faculty funding is available each year. The closing date for applications is mid-January. The department has a small number of tuition studentships available. The closing date for these is the end of April. You can also apply for a small grant to support your postgraduate research project.
