Physical Geography

The programme involves detailed research in a specific subject, with guidance from 1 or more supervisors in the department. The department has 2 major research groupings in physical geography: climate and cryosphere and sediment systems.

Course modules

Research topics: environmental change and drylands: palaeoenvironmental reconstruction; arid and semi-arid geomorphology; aeolian processes; desertification and environmental degradation; glaciated or formerly glaciated environments; mid and low latitude quaternary environmental change; synoptic climatology and precipitation variability; environmental hydrology and fluvial geomorphology: water quality management; groundwater modelling; wetland hydrology and hydrochemistry; cold region hydrological processes; river hydraulics and modelling; monitoring channel patterns and morphology; radar images and geomorphology; remote sensing in environmental monitoring and assessment; application of spatial statistics to geographical information systems.
