Aegean Archaeology

Through a series of specialist modules, you'll explore the archaeology of the Aegean and neighbouring regions. There's an emphasis on prehistoric periods (Neolithic to Early Iron Age, including the Bronze Age Minoan and Mycenaean worlds), and scope to study later periods. Themes include: landscape change; subsistence; material culture and identity; analysis of single sites; Bronze and Iron Age trading systems; the history of archaeology in the Aegean; the contexts of Bronze Age Aegean and Cypriot literacy and the analysis of ceramics, seeds or animal bones. You can expect a balanced timetable of lectures, seminars and practicals. You'll have access to specialist labs and world-class reference collections. Many of our masters courses include a fieldwork or project-based component. We integrate humanities and science-based approaches to nurture a deeper understanding. You'll have the opportunity to explore different viewpoints and make up your own mind about their strengths and weaknesses. We'll help you to develop your critical thinking as well as your practical skills. What we ask of you, as a member of our lively academic community, is that you challenge, question, and explore. Please see our University website for the most up-to-date course information.
