Urban Design

Urban design professionals are in demand. We'll help you develop design skills that relate to a broader social, environmental and economic context, so that you can link individual architectural projects with overall planning strategies. The course is underpinned by a desire to critically examine the key urban development challenges that cities are facing today. You will take local urban areas in Sheffield as a reference for comparison with other UK and international contexts in Europe as well as in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Central to the course is a design studio project, and core modules exploring urban design theory, participatory methodologies and reflections on urban design practice. We are one of the UK's top architecture schools. Our teaching staff are doing world-class research, helping to make the school a leader in our field across the UK and internationally. Through our teaching and research, we explore the social, spatial and environmental implications of architecture. As a Sheffield student you will engage with real issues affecting the built environment. Please see our University website for the most up-to-date course information.
