Develop skills in the analysis and design of steel and concrete structures. Many of our graduates join engineering consultancies, in roles such as structural engineer, building services engineer and sustainability consultant; some join architecture practices. Employers include Arup, Buro Happold, Capita Symonds, Roger Preston and Partners, Cundall and Foster and Partners.
Minimum 2.1 Honours degree (BEng, MEng, BSc) in civil or structural engineering or other appropriate engineering or science subject. Students whose 1st language is not English require an overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
Core modules: linear systems and structural analysis; structural dynamics; computational structural analysis; structural design; dissertation planning and paper presentation. Optional modules: advanced concrete design; fatigue and fracture; sustainable concrete technology; structural design and fire resistance; design of earthquake resistant structures; innovations in structural concrete; risk and extreme events; blast and impact effects on structures; advanced simulation of high strain rate dynamics; geotechnical design.
Assessment is by formal examinations, coursework assignments and a dissertation with oral examination. For environment courses, you�ll also take class and practical tests.
