Ceramic Science and Engineering
This course takes you through the underpinning concepts and how they are applied to electroceramics, refractories, glasses, cements and a wide range of new ceramic materials. We cover fabrication, processing, properties and application of ceramics.
A good Honours degree in materials, metallurgy, chemistry or a related engineering subject from an approved institution. For MSc Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine, a good honours degree in dentistry or medicine is also acceptable. English language requirements- Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
Core modules: functional and structural ceramics; glasses and cements; science of materials; materials processing and characterisation; materials selection, properties and applications; technical skills development; heat and materials; research project in an area of your choice. Optional modules: solid state chemistry; materials for energy; nanomaterials.
Lectures, workshops and laboratory classes. Assessment is by formal examinations, coursework assignments and a dissertation.
