Nuclear Science and Technology

Run in partnership with fellow members of the Nuclear Technology Education Consortium (NTEC), Birmingham, Leeds, London and Manchester, the course gives you access to more than 90 per cent of the UK's academic expertise in nuclear waste immobilisation, decommissioning and clean-up. You'll be based in the department's world-leading NucleUS Immobilisation Science Laboratory, and will take eight modules on the nuclear fuel cycle. Topics include reactor materials and nuclear waste management with each module including one week at one of our partner universities.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree in materials, metallurgy, chemistry or a related engineering subject from an approved institution. English language requirements: Overall IELTS grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules: processing, storage and disposal of nuclear waste; nuclear fuel cycle; reactor physics and criticality; risk management.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by formal exams, coursework assignments and a dissertation.
