Clinical Communication Studies

This course is recognised by the UK Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the UK Health and Care Professions Council. It gives you the training you need to take a professional qualification in speech and language therapy. You'll learn how to assess and manage a range of communication and swallowing disorders. Your skills will be put into practice through a series of clinical placements throughout the course.

Entry requirements

Minimum of a 2.1 in any subject; work experience relevant to speech and language therapy; an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) disclosure and complete a health screening before starting the course. English language requirements: overall IELTS grade of 8.0 with a minimum of 7.5 in each component, or equivalent.

Course modules

The course follows 6 main themes: communication; participation and society; research; biomedical sciences; key clinical skills; clinical placement.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by exams, coursework and evaluation of clinical work. You'll complete a research-based systematic review of a clinically relevant topic in the second year of the programme.
