Sports Medicine

The research groups mandate is the development of a systematic, comprehensive program of sport medicine research and sport medicine education in Britain. Current areas of clinical research include the pathogenesis, etiology, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of sports injuries. There are a number of ongoing projects related to knee, shoulder and ankle injuries; there is also an ongoing extensive experimental research programme on tendon and ligament injuries and healing.

Entry requirements

Relevant 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent from an approved institution; international candidates must have passed the PLAB examination or have obtained exemption from it.

Course modules

Research topics include: sports medicine; sports injuries, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation; health benefits of physical activity and therapeutic application of exercise; the healing and non-healing of ligament and tendon tissue; the cell biology of tendons and ligaments.
