Clinical Supervision for In-Patient and Complex Care Settings

This course is aimed at senior nurses and other multidisciplinary mental health professionals working with vulnerable and high-risk groups. It aims to improve their understanding of the principles of good supervisory practice.

Entry requirements

1st level mental health nurse registration (or equivalent professional registration) with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience in an acute setting. Applicants must be a currently active supervisor. Students must be employed within an appropriate mental health setting to complete the assessments. English language requirements: overall IELTS grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 7.0 in writing and 6 in the other components, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: advancing supervision skills 1: (fundamentals of effective practice, critical reflections skills, critical review of theoretical models and their application to practice); advancing supervision skills 2: (fundamentals of supervision in complex care settings including the emotional impact of the work, ethics, difference and diversity).

Assessment methods

Students are assessed on 2 case studies, 1 at the end of each semester.
