Students who are initially registered for the MPhil and can be transferred to the PhD after 1 year if they have made satisfactory progress; the 1st year then counts as part of the PhD, so the student spends only 3 years altogether.
A 1st or good 2.1 Honours degree in mathematics, physics or engineering, or alternative postgraduate qualification.
