International Finance and Economics

Understand the impact of international economic development. We give you a thorough grounding in the theory and analytical techniques you need to understand contemporary open economies and the operation of internationally integrated financial markets. You can choose an area to specialise in. We can help you develop all the skills you need to become a professional economist. Our graduates work for financial services and consultancy firms, government departments here and abroad, and international organisations like the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Entry requirements

A good 2.1 undergraduate degree in economics usually with mathematics and statistics components. We�ll also consider students with very good degrees in related subjects with strong economics, finance (not accounting finance), mathematics and/or statistics components. English language requirements: overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: macroeconomic analysis; econometrics methods; modern theory of banking and finance; modern finance; applied macroeconometrics; development finance; international money and finance. Optional modules: applied microeconometrics; international trade; industrial organisation; monetary economics; asset pricing; public economics; public policy evaluation.

Assessment methods

We use computer practicals, lectures, seminars, surgeries and workshops. Assessment is by coursework (including essays and project work) and examination. The dissertation gives you the chance to conduct your own research.
