Educational Research

During this one-year, full-time course you will learn the skills and techniques needed to become a competent and informed researcher. You will get one-to-one support from dedicated professionals. Your tutor will guide you through selecting your topic, preparing assignments, identifying questions and carrying out fieldwork.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree. For UK or EU students applying for an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) studentship or university fees-only studentships, a 1st or a 2.1. English language requirements: overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.

Core modules

Critical Issues in Education and Educational Research; Quantitative Methodologies in Educational Research; Qualitative Methodologies in Educational Research; The Practice of Research; Dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by 3 6,000-word assignments, a portfolio record of achievement of a series of short practical assignments giving continuous feedback throughout the Statistical Approaches and Methods module, and a 15-20,000-word dissertation.

Sponsorship information

This programme meets specifications outlined by the economic and social research council (ESRC) and has been approved by that body the ESRC´s recognition of the programme means that it will fund a limited number of student places on the course per year.
