Librarianship (Professional Enhancement Programme)
You'll be introduced to the principles, disciplines and skills of librarianship. Our teaching and research are internationally recognised and we have close links with the profession so you'll be inspired by the latest ideas and concepts. This CILIP-accredited course prepares you for a library career in a variety of sectors.
You'll need at least a 2.1 in any subject plus 12 months' relevant work experience. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
Core modules: management for library and information services; information retrieval: search engines and digital libraries; libraries, information and society; information resources and information literacy; dissertation; research methods and dissertation preparation. Optional modules including e-business and e-commerce; e-government information; educational informatics; information literacy research; content management systems; digital multimedia libraries; research data management; researching social media; business intelligence; database design; healthcare information; human computer information interaction; archives and records management.
All courses (except the distance learning options) include lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical laboratory classes, group work, online discussion, case studies, lectures by visiting speakers and visits to library and information service organisations. You'll be assessed on essays, reports, small projects, presentations, posters, group work and a research-based dissertation.
You may be eligible for a competitive studentship under the AHRC�s Professional Preparation Masters scheme.
