Librarianship (professional enhancement programme)

During this course students will be introduced to the principles, disciplines and skills of librarianship.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 in any subject plus 12 months' relevant work experience. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: management for library and information services; information retrieval: search engines and digital libraries; libraries, information and society; information resources and information literacy; dissertation; research methods and dissertation preparation. Optional modules including: e-business and e-commerce; e-government information; educational informatics; information literacy research; content management systems; digital multimedia libraries; research data management; researching social media; business intelligence; database design; healthcare information; human computer information interaction; archives and records management.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by essays, reports, small projects, presentations, posters, group work and a research-based dissertation.
