Global Politics and Law

You will investigate the exciting crossover between law and politics, particularly focusing on internationalism. Taught jointly with the Department of Law, the course covers common intellectual themes around issues such as human rights and the implications of international law, justice and democracy. We will give you training in research methods. You will use those skills to research and write a dissertation on a subject that you are passionate about. Graduates work in government, the private sector, consultancies and think tanks. The course is ideal background for a career in international business.

Entry requirements

You'll need a 2.1 honours degree, plus references from previous tutors. If you have different qualifications, we'll look at your application on its individual merits. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, 6.5 in writing, 5.5 in listening and 5.5 in speaking, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: politics of international law; dissertation in global politics and law. Plus one of the following modules: the political economy of globalisation; the politics of global migration; contemporary global security; global justice; global governance; global politics of the environment and climate change; research methods in politics; philosophy and methodology of political research. Optional modules include: the political economy of globalisation; the politics of international law; contemporary ethnic conflict; Europeanization; the politics of global migration; contemporary global security.

Assessment methods

You�ll be assessed continuously through essays and dissertation.
