Social Research

This course will help you to become proficient in theoretical concepts in social research. You'll develop highly sought after practical qualitative and quantitative research skills through our hands-on teaching methods. You can tailor the course to your interests by selecting from a wide range of modules that will expose you to the latest debates within your field of research. Graduates can expect to move directly to innovative PhD research, or find employment within roles that require high-level research skills.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in a relevant subject. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: quantitative methods; the research process; qualitative methods; foundations of sociological inquiry. Optional modules: choose from: doing gendered research; science and technology; explorations of contemporary social change; international childhoods -rights, policies and practices; global social policy analysis; global social policy and governance.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include the dissertation.
