Professional Practice with Children and their Families
This course is for professionals from statutory, voluntary and independent sector agencies. It is suitable for social workers, health visitors, doctors, nurses, CP liaison teachers and members of fostering and adoption teams. We can help you to: keep a clear focus on the needs of the child; make clear and defensible judgements; explore issues that relate to your job; work with professionals from other disciplines. There are compulsory seminars plus optional lectures, fieldwork and projects. You are assessed on coursework, assignments, a dissertation, portfolio and group presentations. We also use direct observation of practice to assess some assignments.Frontline management: if you are interested in this area, there are optional modules in: leadership and change management; managing people; managing resources and quality; enabling others.CPD: you can take any module as a stand-alone courses. You could use the credits to build up to a degree at your own pace if you want to.
A 2.2 Honours degree (or above) plus a social work or equivalent professional qualification. Candidates should be currently employed in a relevant work setting that will support studies: many of the assessment requirements are for direct work with children and their families or carers. Candidates without a degree or equivalent but with suitable work experience may also be considered. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
You choose your own modules from: consolidation; working collaboratively to safeguard children; evidence-informed practice; direct work with children and their families; public law; private law; specialist practice; working with networks; supervision and safeguarding. Frontline management has optional modules: leadership and change management; managing people; managing resources and quality; enabling others. CPD: take any module as stand-alone course.
