Professional Practice with Children and their Families
A 2.2 Honours degree (or above) plus a social work or equivalent professional qualification. Candidates should be currently employed in a relevant work setting that will support studies: many of the assessment requirements are for direct work with children and their families or carers. Candidates without a degree or equivalent but with suitable work experience may also be considered. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
Students choose their own modules from: consolidation; working collaboratively to safeguard children; evidence-informed practice; direct work with children and their families; public law; private law; specialist practice; working with networks; supervision and safeguarding. Frontline management has optional modules: leadership and change management; managing people; managing resources and quality; enabling others. CPD: take any module as stand-alone course.
Assessment is by coursework, assignments, a dissertation, portfolio and group presentations. Direct observation of practice is also used to assess some assignments.
