Human Resource Management

This course is designed to enable students to meet the advanced standard of the CIPD for membership whilst achieving the major part of an MSc human resource management (HRM) qualification; it is suitable for those seeking to develop a career at a professional level in HRM; it is expected that students: have responsibility for human resource decision-making in an organisation at either operational, tactical or more strategic level; are human resource (HR) professionals in a team or have an HR functional management role and are seeking to enhance and develop their career; have responsibilities for the HR function and activities within an organisation without a specialist function; are independent or employed consultants who support organisations in meeting their goals; have HR career and CIPD professional membership aspirations.

Entry requirements

A 2.2 minimum Honours degree or an equivalent qualification or, in exceptional circumstances, 3 years' or more significant managerial experience. Holders of CIPD graduate membership or postgraduate qualifications in either human resource management or general management, may be entitled to exemptions.

Course modules

Modules include: Human resource management in context; leading, managing and developing people; developing skills for business leadership; investigating a business issue from a hr perspective; managing employee relations; reward management; employment law; knowledge management and organisational learning; resourcing and talent management.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed via a mixture of examinations and assessed coursework in the form of essays, portfolios and projects, reports, case studies, presentations, design tasks and primary/secondary research. Informal assessment is incorporated into the learning process and you will be given feedback during seminars encouraging reflective practice in formal assessments.
