Computer Systems Security
This course focuses on the technical aspects of computer systems security and systems administration, particularly penetration testing; it is accredited by the TIGER scheme and gives students exemption from some of its examinations.
This course is designed for graduates with a minimum 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent; candidates should have a computing background with very good information technology skills or extensive experience of the relevant sector; the course welcomes international applicants and requires an English level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Modules include: MSc project; independent study; project management and research methodology; network security; practical unix security; practical windows security; vulnerability development; postgraduate project management and research methods.
Assessment is based on coursework, varying from a research-style paper or essay to programming assignments. Each module usually requires 2 essays or papers of around 3,500 words. The students also work on a significant project of their own choosing.
