Civil and Structural Engineering

All design-related modules are taught in accordance with the new structural eurocodes to provide the latest specialist knowledge and technical competences; as well as developing analytical and problem-solving skills, the course covers project planning and contract management training, which are crucial to the success of any civil and structural engineering work.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree, normally a JBM-accredited BEng degree of class 2:2 or above, or a BSc Honours degree of class 2:1 or above in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent professional or recognised overseas qualifications), or sufficient and relevant industrial work experience.

Applicants with a JBM-accredited IEng degree will be treated on an individual basis, but must have attained competences in the core mechanics subject areas of civil/structural engineering at undergraduate level.

The course welcomes international applicants and requires an English level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Geo-environmental Engineering
Advanced Structural Analysis and Structural Concrete Design
Further Advanced Structural Analysis and Steel/Composite Design

Optional modules include:

Seismic Analysis and Design to Eurocodes*
Structural Timber and Masonry Design to Eurocodes*
Further Finite Element Analysis*
Non-Destructive Testing*

*10 credit module

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on coursework, others by a combination of design projects and a formal examination.
