Fashion Retail

This course is designed to allow you to explore and produce creative strategies for fashion and retail brands, equipping you with the skills needed to excel in the global fashion industry. Merging practical skills with leading academic research surrounding business, marketing and fashion theory, the course gives graduates a solid platform from which to return to industry or progress to an academic or research role. The course has been developed to meet global fashion industry demand for employees with both creative skills and business acumen, particularly surrounding multi-channel retailing, digital and social media strategies, brand management, marketing and communication. Students will benefit from an immersion into the contemporary fashion industry, with modules addressing both the creative skills and theoretical application necessary to succeed. Each module will have a research component, combining academic theory with up-to-date industry information, and a creative outcome, developing technical skills and allowing students to gain experience of branding, design for digital media, creative marketing and a strategic application of their learning. The course will include live briefs, with a project set by global brand, marketing and retail experts. Students will produce work at an industry standard to be included in their professional portfolio.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree in a relevant discipline, or an appropriate professional qualification, or HND/HNC and appropriate experience. International applicants will need to have achieved an overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.

Course modules

Modules include: Academic and Professional Practice for Fashion, Fashion Retail Interactions, Fashion Retail Space and Place, Fashion Brand Design and Communication, Strategic Fashion Retail Innovation. The 3rd semester of the degree will include a 60-credit project, which could take the form of an academic dissertation or final industry focused live project.

Assessment methods

Assessment is 100% course work and will include innovative and research informed teaching practices. Modules will include live project briefs from well-known fashion and retail brands to give you experience that reflects industry practice.
