Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
The programme is suitable for current teachers.
A teaching qualification (generic post-16 Cert Ed/PGCE or equivalent, or a primary or secondary teaching qualification). Applicants must be teaching groups of post-16 learners a minimum of 3 hours per week in your chosen specialist subject from the start and throughout the course (teaching needs to be at a minimum of 2 core curriculum levels, eg, entry level and level 1). Teaching must take place in an approved environment (normally further education, adult education, voluntary sector or publicly funded training provider) and references from your employer are requested. Where English is not a native language IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent is required. A health declaration, and an enhanced DBS check required as appropriate. An interview is required.
Assessment is closely connected to your teaching and professional development. Methods include presentations, micro-teaching, case studies, seminars, teaching practice observations and critical evaluations of your own practice. There are no formal written examinations.
