Risk Management

This course is concerned with effective risk management and approaches to risk management across both the public and private sectors and formal treatment of risk. This applies to all aspects of management including: strategy; investment decisions; projects; asset.

Entry requirements

1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK university, or overseas equivalent, or a professional qualification; applications are assessed on individual merit; applicants' degree should involve quantitative study as part of engineering, sciences, finance or economics; mathematics is not essential; international students may require evidence of English language proficiency.

Course modules

Semester 1, compulsory modules: quantitative methods; corporate risk management processes; principles of risk management. Optional modules: consultancy skills; problem structuring; business ethics; simulation; the management of corporate security. Semester 2: additional compulsory module: dissertation. Compulsory modules: insurance; risk taking and decision making; project risk management; quantitative and qualitative research. Optional modules: Financial risk management; credit scoring and data mining; healthcare modelling; game theory; credit risk modelling and the Basel Accord.

Assessment methods

Essays; case studies; coursework; examinations; dissertation.
