Business Analytics and Management Sciences
This MSc applies a wide variety of techniques and approaches for tackling real-life problems in businesses involving complex decision-making. These usually result in improved processes, productivity and performance, with significant cost savings and increased revenues. Following the taught modules, the dissertation is in the form of a three month project, usually involving a placement or working closely with a company.
1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK university, or overseas equivalent, or a professional qualification; applications are assessed on individual merit; some quantitative study as part of engineering, sciences, finance or economics (mathematics not essential); international students may require evidence of English Language proficiency.
Core modules: introduction to business analytics and management sciences; quantitative methods; mathematical programming; simulation; visual basic for applications; consultancy skills; systems thinking/problem structuring; operations management; project management; negotiation skills. A vast range of options are available across the Schools of Mathematics and Management including specialist OR/MS techniques and application areas such as healthcare, risk, finance, transportation, optimisation, data mining, credit scoring and forecasting.
