Advanced Clinical Practice (Advanced Critical Care Practitioner)
This MSc Advanced Clinical Practice pathway gives graduates eligibility to apply for associate membership with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner. The course is designed around the needs of experienced critical care practitioners looking to further develop practice and/or prepare for clinical practice roles at a senior level. It will enable you to strengthen your existing knowledge, skills and competencies while also preparing you for roles that require greater autonomy, responsibility and more complex clinical decision-making.
MSc: Lower second-class degree or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University; registration with a professional body; at least two years relevant post-registration clinical experience.
Core modules: Dissertation; research methods for evidence based practice; diagnostic assessment and decision making (advanced critical care practitioner). Required modules: Advanced critical cate practice; pharmacology and applied clinical science for prescribing advanced medicines management; principles of history taking physical assessment.
Assessment methods depend on module choice but are likely to include essays, case studies, examinations, simulated assessments, practice based assessment, a clinical portfolio and the dissertation. For your dissertation you have a choice of three options: Evidence based practice (similar to a systematic review); Empirical study (undertaking a piece of empirical research); Practice inquiry (reflective systematic exploration of your own practice).
