Statistics

This programme, led by statisticians from across the University, provides a broad grounding in advanced statistical methods, with an emphasis on practical problems arising in the context of collecting and analysing scientific data from a variety of fields.

Entry requirements

MSc: A UK bachelor's degree with upper second-class honours or higher in a relevant discipline which must include some quantitative training, or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Statistical Theory; Statistical Computing; Design of Experiments; Generalised Linear Models; Bayesian Methods; Survival Analysis; Research Skills; Statistics Seminars; dissertation as three-month project. Optional modules include: Topics in Statistics (research-led); Modelling Hierarchical (Multilevel and Longitudinal) Data; Computer-intensive Statistical Methods; Multivariate Analysis; Survey Methods; Statistical Genetics.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through examinations, presentations, coursework assignments and a final dissertation.
