Unmanned Aircraft Systems Design
This industry-leg MSc focuses on the design of unmanned aircraft systems; it is ideally suited to engineers looking to specialise or enter this exciting industry. You will design, build and fly a sophisticated unmanned aircraft during the course of your studies and will have access to rapid prototyping facilities and testing facilities to put your designs through mission testing. You will also have the opportunity to study for a pilot's licence.
2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences or a related subject. Those candidates with relevant employment experience will be considered if they do not meet the requirements. Applications are assessed individually, and any candidates who do not match the standard profile but who have appropriate academic qualifications and/or industry experience are encouraged to apply. The MSc is aimed primarily at people with mechanical or aerospace engineering degrees, however well qualified and motivated applicants with other degrees will be considered.
Compulsory modules include: Unmanned vehicle systems group design project; aystems reliability; design search and optimisation (DSO) principles, methods, parameterizations and case studies; avionics. Core module: MSc research project. Optional modules: finite element analysis in solid mechanics; applications of computational fluid dynamics (CFD); advanced sensors and condition monitoring; control and instrumentation; aircraft structural design; wing aerodynamics; advanced control design; advanced finite element analysis; aircraft propulsion; aircraft structures; composites engineering design and mechanics; automotive propulsion; powered lift.
