Advanced Clinical Practice (Children and Young People)

Provides a flexible academic programme that enables those working with Children and Young People at a senior level to meet the contemporary challenges of advanced clinical practice. The programme covers core learning in relation to research, evidence based practice and decision making, as well as exploring the place of advanced practice within contemporary healthcare. This is complemented by a choice of required modules which includes recognising and prioritising care for the deteriorating child, safeguarding, and health promotion.

Entry requirements

Lower second-class degree or equivalent; registration with a professional body; at least two years' relevant post-registration clinical experience

Course modules

CORE: Research Methods for Evidence Based Practice, Decision Making for Advanced Clinical Practice, Transition to Advanced Practice (Standard, Children & Young People, Critical Care and Midwifery Pathways) Dissertation

REQUIRED - A choice of two of the following:
End of Life Care for Children and Young People with Chronic and/or Life Threatening Illness, Health Promotion, Motivational Interviewing and Health Behaviour Change, Recognising and Prioritising Care of the Deteriorating Child, Safeguarding and Child Protection: Children and Young People - Advancing Practice , Work Based Learning or Open Module - 20 credits/10 ECTS (or 40 credits/20 ECTS in lieu of selecting two required module choices)

In addition to the above students may select one further option module.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods depend on module choice but are likely to include essays, case studies, examinations, simulated assessments, practice based assessment, a clinical portfolio and the dissertation.
