Advanced Clinical Practice (Critical Care)

This programme is designed around the needs of experienced critical care practitioners looking to further develop practice and/or prepare for clinical practice roles at a senior level. It will enable you to strengthen your existing knowledge, skills and competencies while also preparing you for roles that require greater autonomy, responsibility and more complex clinical decision-making.

Entry requirements

MSc: Lower second-class degree or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University; registration with a professional body; at least two years relevant post-registration clinical experience. We welcome international applicants on this pathway.

Course modules

CORE: Decision Making for Advanced Clinical Practice or Diagnostic Assessment and Decision Making (must be preceded by Principles of History Taking and Physical Assessment, Dissertation, Research Methods for Evidence Based Practice, Transition to Advanced Practice (Standard, Children & Young People, Critical Care and Midwifery pathways) Required: Advancing Practice in Critical Care Plus a choice of two of the following Contemporary Advances in Cardiology, Independent and Supplementary Prescribing Part 2: Prescribing in Practice, Pharmacology and Applied Clinical Science for Prescribing and Advanced Medicines Management, Principles of History Taking and Physical Assessment, Work Based Learning.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods depend on module choice but are likely to include essays, case studies, examinations, simulated assessments, practice based assessment, a clinical portfolio and the dissertation.
