Maritime Archaeology

This course aims to provide graduates in archaeology or closely related disciplines with a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of applying archaeology in seas, rivers, lakes and intertidal environments. Intensive practical instruction in specific research skills and field techniques are an integral part of many of the programme modules.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd class Honours degree or equivalent.

Course modules

Semester 1 Compulsory: Maritime aspects of culture; optional: boats of the world: traditions and technologies of ancient watercraft; ship science in archaeology; marine geo-archaeology.
Semester 2 Compulsory: Archaeology under water; dissertation; optional: ancient Mediterranean seafaring; heritage management and conservation of artefacts in the coastal zone; intellectual methodologies.
