Research Methods in Psychology

The main aim of this course is to equip and motivate students to undertake high-quality research by providing advanced training and structured support. Students are encouraged to work on their own initiative, applying newly acquired concepts, methods and skills to promote self-motivated learning; they use a problem-solving approach to create self-generated research questions relevant to a particular area of interest.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in psychology; formal admission is contingent on seeking and obtaining approval from a member of the academic staff to serve as a supervisor.

Course modules

Critical review; multimedia presentation; qualitative study; research proposal; critical review; experimental study; multimedia presentation; survey study; dissertation thesis (comprising a literature review, empirical paper and appendices).

Students can apply for an ESRC studentship (1+3 award).
