Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

This course introduces students to the theory and practice of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and is available at introductory and advanced levels depending on the stage of professional development. It is also available as a theory-only course for researchers and others interested in focusing on theoretical development.

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree in psychology, or recognised equivalent. Students should have a core healthcare profession (as defined by BABCP) or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and attitudes. In addition students will normally have knowledge and experience of cognitive behavioural therapy.

Course modules

Modules are selected from the following: evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders; evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders; CBT for depression; CBT for personality disorders; CBT for psychosis; CBT supervision 1: evidence-based treatments for people with axis i problems (anxiety and depression); supervision 2: disorder-specific treatments for people with anxiety disorders; supervision 3: evidence-based treatments for people with depression; supervision 4: introduction to working with people with personality disorders; supervision 5: further skills for working with people with personality disorders; supervision 6: introduction to working with people with psychosis; CBT supervision 7: further skills for working with people with psychosis; supervisory skills.
