Reformation Studies

This programme provides intensive training in the historiography, debates, and sources of the Protestant and Catholic Reformations. The programme offers students the flexibility to pursue their own avenues of interest, specialising in a particular theological, geographical, or methodological area, while also instilling a wide contextual awareness of all of the European Reformations.

Entry requirements

1st Honours degree , 2.1, or equivalent, GPA 3.6 or better; students whose 1st language is not English, must submit evidence of English language competency.

Course modules

2 optional, including not limited to: Scotland in the age of reform, 1513-1603; art, and piety in Western Europe, 1450-1750; directed reading module. Training options: Specific foreign languages; paleography.

Assessment methods

MLitt: 9 months of coursework and supervised dissertation of 15,000 words. MPhil: 9 months of coursework and supervised research thesis of 40,000 words.
