Entry requirements

Good UK Honours degree (at least 2.1) or equivalent (GPA 3.6 or better on a 4 point scale); overseas applicants whose 1st language is not English must, in addition, provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English (e.g. satisfactory British Council IELTS score or TOEFL score).

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a thesis of 80,000 words of original research.

Sponsorship information

A large number of fully funded PhD Studentships are available each year. Most of the funded places are earmarked for UK and EU citizens, therefore candidates should be UK or EU citizens and hold, or expect to obtain, a 1st Class or 2.1 BSc or MChem degree, or its European equivalent. Research Councils; limited number of University and industrial research studentships. Also available: entrant accommodation bursary; recent graduate discount; Santander 600 scholarships; Thomas and Margaret Roddan Trust bursary.
