Entry requirements

A good undergraduate Honours degree (2.1), or equivalent, or GPA of 3.6 on a 4 point scale, in a range of relevant disciplines. All applicants whose 1st language is not English require satisfactory IELTS score or equivalent TOEFL.

Course modules

Current research projects include but are not limited to: Reconstructing ocean-ice-climate interactions in the North East Atlantic ocean; marginal seas and Scottish sea lochs; dimensions and deglacial chronology of the late devensian ice sheet in Northern Britain; climatic implications of former glacier margins in the Everest region of Nepal, and Tibet; high-resolution reconstruction of past climate changes from the geochemistry of corals, and speleothems; identification of ice-rafted debris sources within Heinrich layers in north east Atlantic sediment sequences using environmental magnetism.

Assessment methods

MPhil students: Candidates complete 9 months of coursework followed by a dissertation of 15,000 words. PhD students: Candidates complete a supervised 80,000-word thesis.
