Banking and Finance

This programme has been designed to prepare students for advanced level employment or doctoral research in the fields of banking and finance. The quantitative orientation of the programme will provide students with the technical skills needed to undertake independent empirical research and achieve a critical understanding of current theories in banking and finance. The core and option modules cover a very wide range of specialisation areas from which students will gain a thorough knowledge of the most current developments in the global financial markets.

Entry requirements

A UK 2.1 honours degree or equivalent from an overseas institution.

Course modules

Semester 1: Research methods in finance; portfolio management and investment. Option 1: Semester 2: Banking and finance; responsible investment. Option 2: Whole year module: Dissertation (including research methods preparation. Option modules: Creative marketing communications; entrepreneurship creativity and innovation; ethics, organisations and management; financial systems; international financial management; international marketing; leadership in organisations; managing natural resources; managing people in global markets; marketing and society; non-governmental organisations (NGOs): critical perspective; risk management; scenario thinking and strategy.

Assessment methods

9 months of ongoing coursework and a supervised 15,000-word dissertation in the final 3 months.
