Secondary Education (Modern Foreign Languages)

The programme prepares you to teach across the age range from 11 to 16 (key stages 3 and 4) with enhancement (post-16 and/or key stage 2).

Entry requirements

Degree minimum of 2.1 (or equivalent) although a 2.2 is considered; GCSE C or above for English and mathematics (or equivalent); have passed the literacy/numeracy skills tests; fluent in written and spoken English (C1 or C2 level) if non-native speaker of English; experience of working with young people; in addition to the specific course entry requirements, all PGCE applicants need to meet the following general entry requirements: recent secondary school classroom observation experience; to be able to clearly and accurately communicate both spoken and written English; candidates must take part in an individual and/or a group interview with representatives from schools as well as university tutors; subject kowledge; applicants need degree level in the 1st foreign language they train to teach; applicants need at least CEFR level B1 in the 2nd foreign language they train to teach; languages offered are French, Spanish, German and Italian. GCSE Requirements; in addition to the general entry requirements, applicants must have grade C or above in English Language and mathematics GCSE examinations or equivalent qualifications. Applicants must also provide a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; meet the Secretary of State�s requirements for physical and mental fitness to teach as detailed in �Fit to Teach� by completing an on-line medical questionnaire.
