Secondary Education with Physical Education
The programme is designed to combine subject knowledge (including practical activities and sports science), professional attributes and professional teaching skills. The programme is challenging and intensive whilst being immensely enjoyable, we pride ourselves on building a strong culture of support within the group and work on the ethos of collaborative learning. Each module is delivered through a mixture of general professional studies, applied subject studies and school based training.
Degree in a relevant discipline, minimum of 2.1 (or equivalent) although a 2.2 will be considered; GCSE grade C or above for English and mathematics (or equivalent); have passed the literacy/numeracy skills tests; a commitment to learning in, through and about physical education; a commitment to the development of young people; an awareness of teaching physical education in a school, at a minimum, through recent classroom observation or leadership activities; have passed the professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy. In addition to the specific course entry requirements, all applicants need to have met the following general entry requirements: Recent secondary school classroom observation experience; to be able to clearly and accurately communicate both spoken and written English; candidates must take part in an individual and/or a group interview with representatives from schools as well as University tutors; GCSE requirements: in addition to the general entry requirements, applicants must have grade C or above in English Language and mathematics GCSE examinations or equivalent qualifications. Applicants are also required to: Provide a satisfactory disclosure and barring service (DBS) check; meet the Secretary of State�s requirements for physical and mental fitness to teach as detailed in �fit to teach� by completing an on-line medical questionnaire.
Modules include: Becoming a teacher (pedagogy and philosophies of learning); inclusion in the secondary classroom (appreciating diversity); understanding the learner (a personalised approach to learning and assessment); teaching placement.
Assessment is via coursework and completion of a teaching placement.
