Executive (Armed Forces)

This programme is designed to develop senior management and leadership competences in individuals in order for them to be effective in their respective organisational roles. In particular, the programme is designed to enable students to develop effective, practical management expertise whilst engaging with postgraduate study skills.

Entry requirements

General admissions requirements of the programme are as follows:
A 2nd class honours degree in any subject, or students holding a qualification recognised as graduate equivalent by the University, plus 2 years management experience, at an appropriate level. Candidates without a 1st degree will be admitted to the programme provided they have extensive managerial experience, at an appropriate level. This will be subject to an interview with the Programme Leader. Candidates with an ILM/CMI Level 7 Diploma or equivalent will receive 60 credits and join the programme at the start of year 2. Based on APCL and APEL of armed forces professional leadership and management courses and experience, the following credits will be awarded: Sgt - Nil; WO/Lt/Capt - 30 credits (Modules EMBM01, EMBM02, EMBM03); Lt Cdr/Maj or above - 60 credits (start 2nd year of study).

Course modules

Year 1: The executive manager; effective leadership; operations management; marketing management; human resource management; managing financial resources. Year 2: Strategic management; innovation and change; research methods. Year 3: Dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include dissertation.
